House Of The Week - Mandalay

An abundance of space at FMI City

CERTAINLY, space is not a problem in this house – once you get there. Over the Hlaing River, 45 minutes from downtown, there is a large one-storey house in a big compound waiting for someone ready to trade time for space. ...more

Luxury Dagon penthouse

Volume 26, No. 503

THERE’S a lot about this 10th-floor, two-storey penthouse in Dagon township, on Nawaday Street, to like. For instance, it’s epic in proportion – about 5250 square feet – and in a good location that offers plenty of schooling and shopping options.

But the styling is opulent and grandiose, with little in the way of subtlety; some will love it, while others will shudder.
There are four bedrooms: one master, two doubles and one single, all of which come with ensuite bathrooms. Those bathrooms – except for the single, all come with bathtubs equipped with hot water heaters and jacuzzi jets.

When entering the apartment you step into the large downstairs living room that features an atrium ceiling, cold granite tiles and a curved wooden staircase heading to the second floor. It also has a couple of chandeliers and several white pillars.

The dining area is attached to the living room, with a double bedroom alongside, while the kitchen and maid’s room are also nearby.

At the other side of the apartment there’s a family room that occupies one corner and includes big windows to look out over the city, including the Shwedagon pagoda. Behind is the spacious master bedroom. Upstairs, there is a second double bedroom, a heavily decorated shrine room and a single room.

There is also a top balcony measuring about 2500 square feet. The dominant colours throughout are white on the walls and darkly stained, decorative teak.

The penthouse includes two telephone lines, seven split-type air-conditioners and two window-type air-conditioners, one electricity meter and a transformer. Water is supplied by government mains.
