House Of The Week - Mandalay

Ready-for-rent villa in Mayangone township

MAKE no mistake – this is a big house. The compound is about 10,000 square feet and the two-storey house has about 5000 square feet as well. And it’s just as well that there’s so much space because it’s a long way from downtown, at Thanlawaddy Street, off Pyay Road, in Mayangone township. more

(Volume 26, No. 509)

IN a lift to Upper Myanmar’s fisheries industry, experts from Vietnam and Ukraine will be helping to build up a range of cold-water fish and lobster breeding facilities in Kachin State.

Last month Myanmar Fisheries Federation signed an agreement with Vietnamese shipbuilding company Vung Tau to work on the breeding of salmon, sturgeon, basa (a sub-species of yellowtail catfish), tra (another yellowtail catfish sub-species) and lobster. The signing followed a visit by 17 Myanmar fisheries experts, led by MFF, to study fish breeding in Vietnam.

Myanmar will be doing the aquaculture for the species, primarily in Putao, Myitkyina and Kanpaiktee, while Vung Tau will provide brood stocks and breeders from Vietnam for hatching and rearing in Myanmar, and will send Vietnamese and Ukrainian experts to do the research, survey and work together with Myanmar said U Han Tun, vice chairman of MFF.
Technical support and training will also be provided together with modern equipment for the breeding and cultivation of saplings.

The rearing of lobster will be carried out on six islands covering 2000 hectares of water surface, while Vietnam will focus on resource efficiency. For Myanmar’s part, MFF will be help find suitable locations, supporting and creating favourable conditions.
