WITHIN Yangon’s many townships, Hlaing Tharyar has one clear advantage above most of the others – an abundance of cheap land.
Sure, it’s a long way from the city and getting back to downtown might be hard work but if your place of employment is on that side of the city you’re in luck.
This block is a good example: It comes inside an expansive 10,000-square-foot compound and could almost double as a hotel – it really is that big. Of course, it’s also about 40 minutes drive from downtown on a good day.
It sits within the FMI City housing project, off the Yangon-Pathein Road, and is close to City Mart and Diamond City Hyper Mart.
Structurally the house seems fairly standard – two storeys with a red tiled roof. The façade is pale blue with yellow and white highlights on the corner bricks. There is also a built-in garage that can hold two cars, plus a golf buggy and plenty more.
The remaining compound is mainly concrete but the edges are trimmed with green lawn, small palm trees and potted plants.
Measuring about 7200 square feet across its two levels, the house contains four ensuite bedrooms.
However, the interior décor is best described as “eccentric”. The ceilings and walls are heavily decorated with turquoise or orange accents here and there; plaster archways separate the living room; and the lighting is fancy indeed.
As befits a house of this size, there are two kitchens and each bedroom comes with a well-equipped bathroom and plenty of built-in storage space.
Even the housing staff are well catered for, with three small bedrooms set aside for them.
The house is only one year old and the condition is tip-top, with all paintwork fresh and unblemished.
There are six air-conditioners, an extension telephone line, one electricity meter and a tube-well water system. Potential tenants are required to pay K5750 a month for general services.
