(Volume 26, No. 510)
MYANMA Computer Group (MCC) announced last week that it plans to open masters and doctoral courses in IT and business in September this year as a joint effort with Siam University of Thailand.
MCC Chief Executive Officer Daw Chaw Khin Khin said a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Thai university on December 26 during the 8th Myanmar ICT week held in Yadanarpon cyber city.
The courses will be offered jointly by MCC and the IT and business faculties at Siam University, but Daw Chaw Khin Khin said further details were still under discussion between the two parties.
However, it was expected that MCC teaching staff will run the courses under guidance from faculty members at Siam University, who will also design curriculum and handle, examinations and accreditation.
Tuition fees have not yet been set but were likely to be just half the fees for a similar course in Thailand, she said, adding courses were likely to be run from MCC’s training institute in Yatanarpon cyber city, located in Mandalay division’s Pyin Oo Lwin township.
The training institute, established last year, currently runs international diploma courses on computer studies offered by the National Centre of Computing (UK), which can lead to a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in business IT from the University of Greenwich in the UK.
MCC computer group, one of Myanmar’s largest IT firms, was established in 1989 and has 120 franchise computer training centres nationwide. Siam University was formed in 1965 and it has become the fifth largest university in Thailand, according to its official website.
