BANGKOK has Panthip Plaza, a shopping mall dedicated to consumer electronics and soon Yangon will have its own dedicated outlet, this time specific to information technology and communications.
U Htun Htun Naing, along with two other businesspeople, said he has formed a company called Blue Ocean that will administer the centre, which will open in the first week of April and will be called “Jupiter”.
It will be located on the fourth floor of the Shwe Parami shopping mall, located at the corner of Yangon-Insein and Parami roads in Hlaing township. The whole centre will be run by Sein Gay Har and renamed the Sein Gay Har Parami Centre.
He said there will be 40 showrooms spread over 12,000 square feet, with the floor leased for 10 years.
“Some businesspeople set up businesses that just worry about localised demand. But we’re different, we are looking forward to strong demand from the immediate area and surrounding townships,” he said.
U Htun Htun Naing added that the company will be leasing out individual plots – in 10-square-foot blocks – soon, with telephone and internet connection included.
The rest of the building will be a typical shopping mall, although there will be 160-seat mini-theatre and children’s playground as well.
The shopping mall was built by Wah Wah Win International in 2003 and 2004 and is near the Bayintnaung Wholesale Commodity Exchange Centre. It includes indoor parking for 100 vehicles, as well as outdoor parking for an additional 100 cars. Naturally there are dual lifts, each with a 24-person capacity, and escalators.
After its initial opening in 2005 the mall was managed by a Thai group, Big C, but closed down within one year.
