CDMA fax service launched
August 30 - September 5, 2010
TELEPHONE owners in Yangon with a CDMA 800MHz line will now have access to fax service, Elite Tech IT company announced on August 20, at the Lifestyle and Car Expo 2010.
“People who want to use fax should first apply to Elite Tech, then to Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT). It only takes a day,” an Elite Tech employee said at the company’s booth.
Ownership documents for the phone and an NRC number are required to apply for the service, as well as an initial charge of K6000, plus K6000 in annual fees and K50 per minute for fax use.
Elite Tech also imports fax machines for CDMA 800MHz use and distributes them at a cost of K200,000.
Though the project has been running in Yangon and Mandalay since January this year, there were initially restrictions in some Yangon townships.
These were lifted in July after the installation of more equipment.
MPT has already issued about 120,000 phones to users in both cities.
Moreover, 30 more GSM radio stations, 150 more CDMA 450MHz and 42 more CDMA 800MHz radio stations are now being built throughout the country to broaden access, and CDMA 800MHz access will be upgraded to cover more townships, including East Dagon, Dalah and Hmawbi in Yangon Division and Kyaukse in Mandalay, sooner than anticipated, an MPT spokesperson said.
