THE Union Solidarity and Development Party cut the ribbon on their Mandalay headquarters on August 20 at a ceremony attended by U Phone Zaw Han and Dr Kyaw Myint.

Both are planning to contest seats in Mandalay in the election on November 7.

Before the ceremony, which took place at precisely 9:54am, U Aung Kyaw Tha, joint secretary general of the Mandalay USDP, told reporters the party has one million members in Mandalay Division and hopes to double that figure during the campaign.

The two-storey office is located on 73rd Street.

Outside the building, helium balloons were released and the crowd was led in a chant: “The election must be successful! The USDP must be victorious!”

When asked if and when the USDP would begin campaigning in Mandalay, Dr Kyaw Myint stated only that the party was just continuing to operate as normal. “We have been doing good for the people for a long time,” he told The Myanmar Times. “[Our campaign activities] are not anything new.”
