DELTA United FC fell well short of the five goals required against Okkthar United FC, eliminating them as championship contenders for the season, January 14.
Delta United failed to secure a victory at Thuwanna Stadium, loosing to Okkthar 1-0.
“We went out to win the game. Our intentions were to win the match and anything else would have been a bonus….we needed bag of goals to be crowned champions.” Delta United coach, U San Win said.
“Instead however the side performed poorly, both the players and the coaches,” he said.
Okkthar United showed that they are strong defensive side which has the ability to launch strong counter attacks, U San Win said.
Delta United failed to translate several scoring opportunities in the 10th ,42nd, and 60th minutes of the game.
Delta’s surest chance came in the 40th minute when midfielder Zaw Myo Min crossed the ball from the right hand flag, connecting with the head of defender James Mooney only to fall straight into the hands of awaiting Okkthar keeper, Tun Lin Soe.
In the 52nd minute however a Okkthar United’s counter attack saw Mai Aih Naing convert a strong pass from the right wing into the back of the net.
Late in the second half Okkthar employed strong defensive techniques, crowding their penalty area in an effort to repel any attempt by Delta to level the scores.
Okkthar United benefited from a strong rotation of players with head coach U Win Tin, making several rotations throughout the game. Players who made strong impressions off the bench were Chike O, Kyaw Lin Oo and striker Mai Aih Naing.
At the post match press conference Okkthar United coach, U Win Tin said that he was happy to end the second MNL competition with a strong win against a strong opponent.
“Every team wants to win every match but sometimes this is not possible, were happy to beat a big team like Delta,” he said.
Okkthar United stands on seventh position with 12 points, behind Magway FC (14 points) on sixth and Zayar Shwe Myay FC in fifth(14 points).
