MFF terminates coach

A series of poor performances in the lead up to the AFC Challenge Cup has resulted in the Myanmar Football Federation(MFF) terminating the contract of head national coach Drago Mamic.

“I didn’t even get time to know the players, I obviously cant be expected to fulfill ever ones expectations in only four months,” Drago Mamic told The Myanmar Times.

“I don’t feel guilty about my performance,” he said.

Poor performances against Thailand last month lead to a renewed concern over Mamic’s coaching style.
Myanmar played four matches in Thailand last month against Usan University Team (4-0 and 3-4), Thai Royal Army Team ( 0-3) and Thai Port Team (1-4). Myanmar lost all four matches.

“In every match, he used different formations to test the players. He didn’t know the players very well,” Myanmar National captain, Myo Min Tun said.

“Nevertheless [before a major tournament] is not the right time to be testing out players,” Myo Min Tun said.
Myanmar reinstated U Tin Myint Aung as national coach prior to the start of the AFC Challenge Cup to be held in Sri Lanka, February 16-27.

In the lead up to this week’s tournament, newly appointed coach U Tin Myint Aung said that whilst he did not have a lot of time to prepare the team for the competition he would “motivate the team for a strong performance”.

“I cant make any major changes, but I believe the team will play well and at least make the semi-finals,” U Tin Myint Aung said.

Tajikistan is widely considered to be the favorite at this year’s tournament.

Myanmar will play its first game against Sri Lanka, February 16.
