Alliance Francaise puppet show
A puppet performance will be held at Alliance Francaise on January 23 at 6pm. The performance will be the result of a two-week directing workshop held by three French artists from the company “La Fabrique des Petites Utopies” and local students. The show is free of charge at Alliance Francaise, 340 Pyay Road, Sanchuang township, Yangon.
Film screening at the Japanese embassy
The Japanese embassy will screen Not Yet in the embassy’s Assembly Hall on January 28 and 29 at 2:30pm. The film is directed by Akira Kurosawa. Tickets are available until the day of the screening (between 9am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm) at the embassy.
Japanese Literature Translation Contest
The Japanese embassy is hosting the 5th Japanese Literature Translation Contest on February 21 from 8:30am to 12pm at Yangon Myanmar Info-tech, the Hlaing campus of Yangon Univeristy and in Mandalay’s HITO Centre.
The contest was established in 2006 by the Japanese embassy in cooperation with the Myanmar Association for Japan Alumni (MAJA) and has been supported by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yangon (JCCY).
Application forms can submitted to the Information and Culture Section of the embassy at 100 Natmauk Road, Bahan township, Yangon and to the HITO Centre on the corner of 80th and 12th street in Mandalay. The deadline is February 5.
Art exhibition to raise funds for elderly
Hninzi Gon Home for the Aged will hold a third book fair and second art exhibition from January 26 to February 2 at the home on 21 Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, Bahan township.
Half of the profits from the sale of art works will be donated to the elderly. The fair will be open from 9am to 6pm and is free. The care home first held an art exhibition to raise funds in 2008. The show will be open from 9am to 6pm.
“Artists from Yangon and the districts are still sending their paintings to be sold at the fair although in my experience, more and more artworks arrive as the fair gets closer. There is no limitation on style,” said a spokesperson from the Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Organisation
