Jazz on the grass at American Club

TWO American musicians, Guitarist Freddie Bryant and percussionist Gilad performed a Jazz concert at the American Club in Mayangone township on January 13.

It was the first concert in Myanmar for the musicians although they have performed all over the world, beginning in the early 1990s.

The concert started around 6:30pm. The atmosphere was relaxed with most people sat on the grass.

Many local musicians were among the audience, including Zaw Myo Htut, lead guitarist of Myint Zi Ma Hlaing band.
“As Jazz music hasn’t developed in our country yet the music is new to local music lovers. It’s good for us to see the concerts by international musicians and this event brings the audience closer to jazz,” he said.

“I really enjoy playing with Freddie… He always tries new things. We were both interested in Brazilian influenced Jazz music at the same time, more or less. He’s a great musician and I’m lucky to play with him,” said Gilad in the press conference following the concert.

The concert finished at 7:30pm. The pair was scheduled to play a concert in Mandalay on January 15 and meet with the city’s famous Myo Ma orchestra.
