Japanese embassy film screening

The Japanese embassy will screen Hana (2006), a Japanese black comedy by director Hirokazu Koreeda, in the embassy’s assembly hall on March 25 and 26 at 2:30pm. Tickets will be available from March 15 until the day of the screening (between 9am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm) at the embassy. The number of seats is limited.

Mr and Ms La Pyayt Wun competition

This year’s Mr and Ms La Pyayt Wun contest is now open to entries. The first round will be held on April 1 and the second round on April 10. Application forms are available at Level 8, La Pyayt Wun Plaza. The deadline is March 30. The top prize is six lakh.

Music concert at Andaman Club Hotel

The Andaman Club Hotel on Thahtay Kyun Island, part of the Myeik Archipelago, has organised a music concert on March 21 to promote its venue. “We have hosted concerts with singers from Thailand before although they were not professional singers. This time we want to organise a concert with famous singers from Myanmar,” said a spokesperson of the hotel.

The concert will feature R-Zarni, L-Sai Ze and rock band The Tree. “We would like to promote the south of Myanmar as a new destination for tourists,” added the hotel spokesperson. World Poetry Day events

In celebration of World Poetry Day on March 21, Sar Pae Lawka gallery on the corner of Pansodan and Maharbandoola roads will be selling poetry books and displaying rare poems. In addition, Pansodan art gallery will exhibit a variety of handwritten poems and sketches. The events will run from March 19 to 22.

Concert at Inya Lake Hotel

Bo Bo Entertainment has organised a hip-hop and DJ bash on March 20 at Inya Lake Hotel. The event will feature J Me, Ye Lay, Jaut Jat, Snare, G family, Banny Phyo, Wine Su Khine Thein, A Thin Cho Swe amongst others. Dj Mann, Dj Mickey and Dj Nyi Nyi will also play sets. The show will start at 1pm. Tickets are K5000 each, available at Conqueror (La Pyae Wunn), Nobody (FMI, Dagon and Yankin centre), Capital Giordano outlets and Fashion Stars outlets.

The Spy Next Door screening

The Spy Next Door (2010), will screen at Nay Pyi Daw cinema until March 18. The film stars Jackie Chan as CIA agent Bob Ho who is landed with his most difficult assignment yet in the form of his girlfriend’s three kids. Family entertainment directed by Brian Levant.
