Children victims of human trafficking

TWENTY percent of the 302 human trafficking cases uncovered in 2009 involve children, 7-Day News reported on April 30. Acting as the minor’s mother, human traffickers take the children into foreign countries like China, where they are then sold. The price for one child is about US$3000. Some Chinese people buy children to adopt them, while others are bought and resold abroad.

If your child doesn’t arrive home from school on time, inform the respective authorities immediately, a spokesperson from the United Nations Inter-Agency Project (UNIAP) on Human Trafficking said.

Gold carrying limits for local passengers

MYANMAR nationals who travel abroad are only allowed to carry a maximum of one tical (.0576 ounces) of gold with them, Flower News reported on May 4.

“Some Myanmar passengers who go abroad always take various kinds of jewellery so we check them carefully at the airport,” said a customs official.

“This notice has already been posted at the main departure hall since early this year. Each Myanmar passenger is allowed to carry no more than one tical of gold. Myanmar passengers are also not allowed to carry precious gems,” the official said.

Air Bagan buys four new aeroplanes

DOMESTIC airline Air Bagan has bought two Airbus A-320 and two ATR-72-500 aircraft, The Voice reported on May 3. Air Bagan bought the planes to increase its domestic and international services, the report said, quoting a company official. The official declined to give any more details about the purchase.

Air Bagan will soon have 12 aircraft altogether, the report said.

“We don’t know exactly when the aeroplanes will arrive,” the official said. Air Bagan currently has eight planes: two Fokker-100 planes, two ATR-72 planes, two ATR-42 planes, and two Airbus A-310 planes.
