Cinema screenings

The Spy Next Door is currently screening at Mingalar cinema until June 4. The film stars Jackie Chan as a CIA officer tasked with looking after his girlfriend’s kids, one of whom downloads a secret formula, which attracts the attention of terrorists.

Meanwhile, Shae Saung cinema will be screening Prince until June 4. This film stars Vivek Oberoi as Prince, a high-profile thief who has lost his memory.


The Glass Palace translated

Well-known writer Nay Win Myint has translated Amitav Ghosh’s bestseller The Glass Palace into Myanmar. Yay Kan Thar Kyar Dine Aye is published by Bagan publishing house and retails at K7000. The novel was recently serialised in Shwe Amyutay magazine.


Summer art show

Children from Lokanat art gallery’s youth art group will hold an exhibition from May 28-30 at the gallery on Pansodan Road. Approximately 200 works of art by 85 children will be on display.

Ye Lay launched new album

Hip-hop star Ye Lay released his new album Tat Tiya Karyan (The Third Rhyme) on VCD and DVD on May 22. The album includes collaborations with seven singers, including Jenny, Eaint Chit and Htein Win. It is distributed by Cho Kyi Thar music production.


Khin Phone releases VCD

Khin Phone released music videos for her album A Yone Lwel Thu (A Girl Easily Fooled) on May 18. The singer attributes the one and a half year gap between the album launch and the release of the VCD to her busy concert schedule and desire for quality.

“We made the videos again and again until we were satisfied. We sometimes made many shots for a song,” said Khin Phone. The videos are directed by Lu Min Khaung, Zaw Ko Ko, Na Gyi and Sein Lin (Pyin Oo Lwin) and feature friends including Aung Ye Linn, Chit Thu Wai, Phway Phway and Bunny.
