Almost 30 new commodity centres to be built: ministry

TWENTY-EIGHT new commodity centres will be built in Myanmar, The Yangon Times reported on July 22, quoting U Aung Tun, Deputy Minister of Commerce.

The report said the government was aiming to increase trade in both local and imported goods by building the centres.
There are presently 29 commodity centres in Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing, Magway, Bago and Ayeyarwady divisions and Shan State, the report said.

“If there is a commodity trading centre, we can know the price of goods accurately so it is easier to trade. The main thing is we won’t make mistakes when trading because we have the right data,” one trader said.

Thai businesses eye investment in agriculture, livestock

A DELEGATION from the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) and experts from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok visited last month to discuss potential investments in the livestock breeding and agriculture sectors, 7Day News reported on July 22.

The report said the 21-member Thai delegation visited livestock breeding and agricultural businesses in Yangon and Mandalay divisions and Shan State, quoting a member of the BOI.

Many businesses in Thailand are becoming more interested in investing in Myanmar, said Pornpimon Trichot, the co-director of the Institute of Asian Studies at Chulalongkorn University.
