City FM releases 8th album

By Nuam Bawi
July 26 - August 1, 2010

CITY FM is continuing its tradition of releasing an album each year with a new release on tape and CD on July 25, the eighth so far

However, in a break with tradition, the popular radio station based in Yangon is this year targeting its album at an older audience rather than teenagers.

“My first plan for this album was to present guitar-based songs and invite all of the Myanmar guitarists, including those who are abroad to participate. But many guitarists said they couldn’t be involved in the album,” said the album producer Min Chit Thu.

In another departure from the past, the album relies on the vocal talents of mostly established singers such as Zaw Win Htut, Htun Eain Dra Bo, L Sai Ze, Chan Chan, Jenny, Wai Suh Khaing Thein and Yadana Mai, amongst others, rather than unknown singers.

“We included many new singers last year so when we thought about the album we decided to choose more famous singers this year,” said Min Chit Thu, who added “We tried our best this year so there is more variety than in the past.”

The Tree provides accompaniment on the album, although Emperor and The Blaze also feature.
