Elderly Jazz performers still enter

“I started in pre-war days around 1940, before the Japanese regime. I was only 10 years old,” says U Apollo, otherwise known as William Jolly. “Then after WWII, I started learning jazz music from a jazz musician by the name of D’orozal. For medical doctors, writing is the cure

IT is winter and snow is falling outside Mandalay General Hospital. In one of the operating rooms, a shy house surgeon stands over a patient, scalpel at the ready. This is Dr Soe Lwin’s first experience performing surgery, and many of the hospital’s doctors and medical students have come to watch. As he makes the first incision the doctor’s hand shakes, the cut is not straight and, ashamed, he leaves the operating room believing he will never make it as a surgeon. New gallery set to open doors on August 28

A NEW gallery based at Excellent Condominium in Yangon’s Dagon township featuring works from well-known local artists will this week open its doors to the public. Established by Daw Patricia Pun, Trish Gallery will hold its opening ceremony on August 28. (Volume 27, No. 537 - August 23 - 29, 2010)

Photographic society turns 60-years old

The group will also produce a publication to mark the event, cataloguing images from the past 60-years. It will be the societies only published record after several failed attempts, and will be available for public sale from local book vendors.
