Artist to visit SKorea forum
August 30 - September 5, 2010
A MYANMAR artist is to participate in a regional cultural forum in South Korea next month. The Asia Culture Forum 2010 will be held from September 7 to 9 in Gwangju, said U Thant Sin, who will travel to South Korea for the event.
“Participants from across the Asia region will meet and discuss the [concept of] ‘New Asia’. The forum will also include three paper reading sections and each section will be presented by four participants,” said U Thant Sin, who is also deputy chairman of the Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Organisation (Central).
“I will read a 20-minute paper titled ‘New Step Movement of Myanmar Artists’. It will briefly cover the development of the Myanmar art scene, [such as] how traditional art has gradually changed to contemporary, as well as the history of Myanmar art.”
He said the forum would be an opportunity to learn about and discuss aspects of other Asian cultures. He expects to hold a seminar on his return from Gwangju to share his experience with other artists.
The forum is organised by Gwangju International Center and is co-hosted by Gwangju Metropolitan City and the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
