Hoteliers hold tree planting ceremony
July 26 - August 1, 2010
THE Ngwe Saung Zone Hoteliers Association last week held a monsoon tree planting ceremony near Yuzana Resort as part of efforts to promote environmental awareness among the local community.
Altogether about 2000 trees, including coconuts, mangos, gold mohurs, Malaysian and Myanmar gum-kinos, cedrelas and almonds, were planted in the July 18 ceremony.
“The maintaining of a green environment at the beach is a very important issue and we Ngwe Saung hoteliers never destroy the trees without reason,” said association vice chairman U Kyaw Htun.
“This ceremony is mainly to educate the local community about maintaining a green environment and the importance of trees for the development of the environment.”
Secretary Daw Kay Thi Naing said the hotels and resorts at Ngwe Saung regularly plant trees in unoccupied spaces in their compounds.
“We plan to organise this kind of ceremony every year,” she said.
