Tagaungtaung nickel mine starts operations

CHINA Nonferrous Metal Group (CNMC) last week opened its nickel mining operation in Thabeikkyin township in Mandalay Region, the New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported on March 30.

The company will operate the mine under a production sharing contract signed with the No 3 Mining Enterprise, under the Ministry of Mines. The Minister for Mines, U Ohn Myint, gave a speech at the March 27 opening, during which he revealed that the mine would yield 1.97 tonnes of raw nickel a year and nearly 85 tonnes of ferronickel.
