SEVEN Myanmar students have been selected to take part in the Asian Science Camp 2012 at the Edmond J Safra Campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Givat-Ram in Israel.

The August 26-31 camp will be the sixth but the first in which Myanmar students have participated, said U Zaw Myint, the Myanmar coordinator for the 2012 camp.

The seven participants from Myanmar were selected from 160 applications. Criteria include being aged from 17 to 20, good written and oral English communication skills and a genuine interest in science. Three are from state universities and four are from private institutes.

They will be joined by up to 243 other students from 24 countries from Asia, Australia and Pacific.

Ten Nobel laureates have been invited to lecture at the camp, including Robert J Aumann (economics), Aaron Ciechanover (chemistry), Makoto Kobayashi (physics), Roger Kornberg (chemistry) and Yuan T Lee (chemistry).

“I am very excited to go to Israel and meet the Nobel laureates and chat with other students from Asia. I can get knowledge and experience and if I can I want to share this knowledge with other Myanmar students,” said Ko Hein Htet Aung, one of the successful applicants.
