POST-PAID GSM mobile telephone bills will be dropped at the end of February, a Yatanarpon Teleport official said last week. Billing in future will be paid either online or prepaid methods, said U Tun Tun Naing, the managing director of Yatanarpon Teleport’s call centre service.
He said the company had sent messages to users on January 2 and 3 asking how many people would be interested in moving to a prepaid system. The data was then passed on to Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), he said
“Dear GSM User, MPT will provide Prepaid Billing System for u soon. Pls reply with “YES” if u want to use Prepaid system. Call 1876 for detail inquiry,” was the message sent to all post-paid GSM users.
“We sent up to three messages to users. If they did not reply, we assumed that they would use the online billing system,” an operator from Yatanarpon Call Center said.
“We have also shared information on how both systems work. Under the prepaid system users will be charged by the second, while bills paid online will be charged by the minute,” he said.
“Myanma Economic Bank, Asia Green Development Bank and United Amara Bank will implement the online payment system and the other banks are also registering to operate it as well,” a spokesperson from Yatanarpon Teleport said.
“Online bill payers can make international calls whereas prepaid users cannot. We have only negotiated with regional partners for the online system so far,” an MPT spokesperson said.
