ARCHAEOLOGICAL museums were opened in two of Myanmar’s ancient cities last month by the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library under the Ministry of Culture.

According to an online report posted by the Union of Myanmar Travel Association, the Tagaung Archaeological Museum opened in Thabeikgyin township in Mandalay Division on September 1, while the Beikthano Archaeological Museum opened in Taungdwingyi township, Magwe Division, on the same day.

A spokesperson from the Beikthano Archaeological Museum said the one-storey building features displays of artefacts discovered near Pyu, Beikthano and other ancient sites in the country, such as the remains of early humans, stone implements and fossils. The admission fee is 6 FEC for foreigners and K200 for locals.

The Tagaung Archaeological Museum houses a similar collection, the report said. Admission is 5 FEC for foreigners and K200 for locals.

The Beikthano Archaeological Museum can be contacted by calling 063-503-72, while the Tagaung Archaeological Museum can be reached at 01-333-9457 or 02-692-88.
