Computer awards to be presented in Jan

Winners of the Myanmar ICT Awards 2010 will be announced in January, U Aung Soe Moe, an executive committee member of Myanmar Computer Professionals Association, said at a press conference on October 9.

The awards are jointly organised by the Myanmar Computer Federation, Myanmar Computer Industries Association and the Myanmar Computer Professionals Association, U Aung Soe Moe said at the conference, held at the Myanmar Info-Tech main building.

He said the awards will be split into four categories: Business Application of the Year; Website of the Year; Student Project of the Year (primary, middle and high school); and Educational Course Ware of the Year. He added that the competition aimed to promote local software development and provide technological support to small and medium developers. Accordingly, large companies will not be able to enter their programs.

The submission deadline for projects for the Business Application of the Year and Website of the Year categories is December 15.

“In previous years applicants didn’t have enough preparation time but this year the applicants have been given two months to prepare their projects, which will produce better projects,” U Aung Soe Moe said

Application forms are available at the Myanmar Computer Federation.

“We hope to see more young people creating new technology and becoming interested in this field,” said Daw Than Than Tint, vice president of the Myanmar Computer Industry Association.
