The Myanmar Times previews Week 11 in MNL 2017, which also marks the end of the first half of the season. Matchups include Rakhine at Ayeyawady and Shan at Hantharwady.
Ayeyawady United vs Rakhine United
Today, Waitharli Stadium
A tough match because both teams improved and got impressive results in their previous games. Rakhine United is especially dangerous on their home turf and can upset big teams.
Although Ayeyawady Untied fared badly in the opening of the season, they can return to their best form because their forward has scored 11 goals in the past four games.
Shan United vs Hantharwady United
Today, Taungoo Stadium
Hantharwady’s performance has improved but they continue to play against tough rivals like Magwe, Yadanarbon and Ayeyawady.
Today, they face big rivals Shan United at home. Last weekend, Shan took advantage of Yadanarbon’s mistake and climbed to second in the standings behind leader Yangon. They must not make a mistake in this match because Yadanarbon is close on their heels.
This game is a battle for both sides.
Zwekapin United vs Southern Myanmar
Saturday, Mawlamyine Stadium
Southern Myanmar has had trouble this season, winning no games until Week 10 and falling to the relegation zone.
Zwekapin United is steady and has good teamwork this season, but they lost to Magwe 4-0 last week. They will need to pay extra attention to their play to regain their momentum this weekend.
Yangon United vs Chin United
Saturday, Aung San Stadium
This will be a meeting between an underdog and a leader. Actually, Chin’s performance hasn’t been bad, but they have been unfortunate.
Yangon United is undisputed champion of the first half of the season, but they will keep on the pressure to secure the three points at stake in this game.
Last week, Yangon players got a boost to their morale by beating traditional rivals Yadanarbon because of a stronger squad. Chin United can’t compare to Yangon United, so this is not an easy game for Chin United.
Magwe vs GFA
Saturday, Thuwana Stadium
Magwe returned to the MNL last week with a victory, beating Zwekapin Untied 4-0. GFA is an underdog and dropped to the relegation zone with six points. But Magwe played in the AFC cup Wednesday against Cambodian club Boeung Ket Angkor, so its players will be tired.
Yadanarbon vs Nay Pyi Taw
Sunday, Wunna Theikdi Stadium
These teams are so far apart in the standings. Yadanarbon is in the championship race while Nay Pyi Taw has dropped to the relegation zone. Nay Pyi Taw does have the host advantage, but Yadanarbon is preparing for victory and three points.
