Myanmar play Vietnam in crunch U-15 match

Myanmar faces Vietnam today in their crunch group match of the 2017 AFF Under-15 Girls Championship at the KM16 National Stadium in Vientiane, Laos.

For Myanmar, today’s match will be their third in the group stage, and a victory will boost its prospects for a place in the semi-final. Their win-loss record stands at 1-1. Myanmar beat hosts Laos 2-1 in the tournament opener on May 8 but lost 0-1 to Thailand two days later.

Myanmar, or White Angels as the women’s team is fondly called, is in Group A along with Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.

After two matches Thailand heads the group with six points, having won both of them, followed by Myanmar and Laos – both with three points each. Vietnam are winless so far, having lost to Thailand in their first outing, and would only be playing their second match today.

As such Thailand has virtually qualified for the last four, and if Myanmar trump Vietnam today the White Angels can join them there.

“Actually, our group is a tough one and includes good teams. Thailand and Vietnam are strong while Laos is the host team. But we have a chance, Myanmar play Malaysia in their last group match on May 16.
