The White Angles need only one point for a semifinal place and a draw with Malaysia will be enough.

But White Angles’s boss Daw Nu Nu Khine Win said although Malaysia were the underdogs going into the match, Myanmar would not underestimate their opponents.

“We need just one point to make it to the semifinal but we’ll go for three – a win. I have told my players as much. We’ll try our best and treat every match like it was a final.” said Daw Nu Nu Khine Win.

Myanmar was drawn in Group A with hosts Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia while Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia and Indonesia are in Group B.

From Group B, Philippines and Cambodia have qualified to the semifinal with nine and four points respectively while Thailand has already qualified from Group A, leaving Myanmar and Laos to battle it out for the other slot.

After three group matches, Myanmar has six points and Laos three. Myanmar beat Laos 2-1 and Vietnam with an identical score but lost to Thailand 0-1.

In the other match scheduled today Laos will play Vietnam.

“Although we have beaten Laos and Vietnam, we can’t afford a slip today. This match is important. Everything is possible in football. We can’t underestimate Malaysia.” Daw Nu Nu Khine Win stressed.

If Myanmar progress to semifinal, they will face Philippines whileThailand play Cambodia on May 18.
