Shan United thrash Nay Pyi Taw to go top

“Now we can create our own luck,” said an exulted Shan United coach Soe Myat Min after his team scored a convincing 3-0 victory over Nay Pyi Taw last weekend to go top of the MNL league with Yangon United and Yadanarbon within touching distance.

“Now our team is on top again. We have been waiting a long time for this, since the 2012 MNL season. We’ll be back with our best after the three-month break. We’’ll try to keep our top place and become league champions. Good teams create their own luck.” said the Shan United head coach after the match.

Before Shan United went on top, Yangon United was leading the standings but they suffered two consecutive losses – to Yadanarbon 3-0 and Magwe 2-1 – and are now in third place. Elsewhere Yadanarbon thrashed Chin United 6-1 at their home ground, Mandalar Thiri Stadium, on June 1.

Although Shan United top the table, only one point separates the top three teams and they have Yadanarbon and Yangon Untied breathing down their necks.

In 2012, Shan United was also in the same position with two league matches remaining, but they slipped. Shan United’s coach affirmed the team will do its utmost to make sure the mistake is not repeated again.

After week 16 of the MNL Max Cement 2017 (league) competition, Shan United leads the table with 38 points, followed by Yadanarbon FC 37 points and Yangon United in third place with 36 points.
