According to its organisers, Mandalay Region Bodybuilding and Physical Culture Subcommittee, the event featured an equal number of men and women participants in all categories of competition. It was held on June 26 at Mandalay city hall.

The event featured junior (19 entries) and senior (five entries) competitions. The bodybuilding contest drew 15 participants in the under 170-cm tall category and an equal number in over 170-cm category. The women’s field saw nine entries in the under 160-cm tall category and seven in the over 160-cm category: they were vying for model physique honours.

“We are satisfied with the contestants this year. They’re all hard-working. They all made great efforts too. Everyone has his or her own advantages and disadvantages and thus some won prizes while some didn’t,” the subcommittee’s secretary U Zaw Naing Oo  said.

In the junior division Me Gyi was the winner, Zin Win Tun came second and Thurein third. In the senior category, the winner was Aye Soe Min, Me Gyi came second and Khin Maung Tun third.

In the sport physique contest for men under 170-cm tall, the top three finishers were Min Min, Yan Paing Soe and Tin Soe Win – in that order, while in the above 170-cm category the winner was Toe Wai Chit; Aung Ko Min came second and Nay Thura Naing third.

In the model physique competition for women under 160-cm in height, the first, second and third places went to Thandar Oo, Khin Ye Mauk and Grace respectively, while in the above 160-cm category, Sandar Win came first, Thingyan Oo second and Nan Moe Khay third.

The Shwe Man Maung Bodybuilding contest and pageant has been held since 1945 and it has produced many national athletes, said U Zaw Naing Oo.
