THE government last week approved the appointment of Mr Noel Cabrera as the Philippines next ambassador to Myanmar.

Mr Cabrera, 62, will replace Ms Phoebe Gomez, who left Myanmar last December after more than five years in the post, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a February 27 statement.

Mr Cabrera, who has worked for the Philippines government for more than 30 years, was ambassador to Romania before being appointed to Yangon.

An official at the Philippines embassy in Yangon said last week that Mr Cabrera was expected to arrive in Yangon later this month.
