“Precisely because ASEM offers the opportunity for a free and frank dialogue and exchange of views among leaders, ministers and senior officials of both regions, ASEM is an important instrument of Asian-European relations,”........

REGULAR electricity supplies later this year will depend on adequate water in the dams and reservoirs supplying 11 hydropower stations which generate 48 percent of Myanmar’s total output, officials from the Ministry of Electric Power (2) said last week.

“It is not compulsory for seamen to get insurance but more and more of them are signing up. In 2004-2005 more than 12,000 sailors were insured while in 2006-2007 the number had increased to more than 17,000,”

“Maps are the key elements for a census. We are now gathering GIS maps, and all staff and infrastructure should be ready for the national census as soon as we get approval from senior officials,”

“Children make much more of an effort when they have a goal, so creating art for this show helped them develop their ideas and skills, and vastly improved their ability to make art,”

“Progress could be undone by a market-induced reversal, the production of new drugs, or the opening of new trafficking routes, and new markets. We therefore have to consolidate the progress that has been made and take further action to prevent a spread of drug abuse,”

U Kan Saw said one of the first challenges the business had to overcome was to develop a machine capable of washing and cleaning used plastic bags to the quality standard required by buyers.

“Our goal is to organise bloggers from all over the world who write in the Myanmar language and to introduce people who are not familiar with the internet to the concept of blogging and teach them how to post their own blogs,”

“We can’t say that trading in the private sector is declining. The (government’s) rise is mainly due to stronger exports of natural gas,” said Dr Maung Aung, an economist with the Economic Studies and Research Centre, under the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI).

“Of these rivers and creeks, the ministry has already conducted surveying work at the Sai Thin Creek and estimated its electricity output would be 76 megawatts,”.....

“Many developers still don’t know how dangerous it is and don’t pay any attention to it (water damage). When they mix concrete, sometimes the ratio is wrong and when the building is finished it leaks and people have to put up with dripping water,”

“You have the most amazing experiences. Travelling and being so close is what sets our group apart from the other a cappella groups back home. We hope to make it back here soon and see more of Myanmar.”

“I felt like I had to try harder than the other students mainly because of the language barrier. And it was difficult to learn the names of the ingredients that weren’t available in Myanmar. Being a chef is demanding and aggressive, and the training is exactly the same to prepare you for what is to come.”
