A LIBRARY of Myanmar-language books that opened in Singapore
in April is attracting an ever-growing list of members, cofounder
Ko Zin Ko Latt said last month.
Lan Pya Kyae (Guiding Star) Library, founded by eight Myanmar
nationals, was opened on April 28 at Peninsula Plaza on North
Bridge Road, which has long been a regular meeting place for Myanmar
people living in Singapore.
Ko Zin Ko Latt told The Myanmar Times in an email that the library
attracted more than 200 members within two weeks of its opening
day.
“We started with what we could gather in Singapore. Our
collection has already grown from 750 donated Myanmar-language
books on opening day to more than 1100 books now,” he said.
The library is open only two days a week, on Saturdays and Sundays.
A six-month membership costs S$10 (US$6.50).
Ko Zin Ko Latt said Lan Pya Kyae Library will continue to accept
donations of books in an effort to continuously expand its collection.
“Our library is small but we want to provide a small piece
of Myanmar language and literature for Myanmar nationals in Singapore
who feel of homesick,” he said.
