Five ways to stay entertained in June

By Moe Moe Oo

1. Travel to Serbia without leaving home

See the paintings of Serbian artist Stojanka Djordjic in a show titled "The Illusion of the Real". Forty watercolour paintings focusing on the people, landscape and daily life of Belgrade will be on display. Take a look at the development of Serbia, enjoy the beautiful landscapes and learn about the lifestyle of the people. Ms Djordjic's work is representative of her constant search for a poetic balance between abstract art and a yearning for peace through the harmonious relations of colour, line, space and light. The exhibition will be held at Hinthar art gallery, 42a Inya Myaing Rd, Bahan Tsp from June 8 to 19.

2. Let’s go shopping

Get down to the big monsoon sale at La Pyayt Wun Plaza for the whole month of June. All items will be marked up to 50 percent off. Spend over K30,000 and you can enter the lucky draw, to be announced on June 30. Prizes include a 29-inch flat screen colour TV, a refrigerator, a washing machine and over 100 appliances.

3. Spoil your dad

Don’t settle for the old socks and tie idea this year - surprise your father with a special meal at Traders Café on Father’s Day (June 17). Sunday Brunch will feature some Father’s Day specialty dishes and free-flow wine for US$20 per person.

4. Music to your ears

Pick up a copy of pop singer L Lun Wah’s second solo album. Titled Endless Hope (Asonemae Myawlintchak), the album includes 12 songs composed by Mg Mg Zaw Latt, Shwe Jaw Jaw, L Lun Wah, Vino Tun, SNO, San Pee, I.Z and Aung Zaw Latt — all recorded with the Evening Star band. It is available on cassette tape and CD at most music stores for K1000.

5. Join Mark Wahlberg and Danny Glover for a night of action

Sit back and escape the weather at a screening of Shooter at Nay Pyi Daw cinema. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and starring Mark Wahlberg, Micheal Pena, Danny Glover and Kate Mara, this action-packed thriller will have you teetering on the edge of your seat. There are five screenings daily at 10:00, 12:30, 3:30, 6:30 and 9:30 until June 8. Ticket prices are K400, K600, K700, K1000, K1200 and K1400.
