IMT students get shipboard training

Kyaw Soe Lin and Zaw Winn

TEN outstanding cadets from the Institute of Marine Technology left Myanmar on July 2 for a six-month training program run by the Korea Institute of Marine and Fisheries Technology, said U Win Thein, the principal of IMT.

“The top 10 IMT students from the 2006-2007 academic year were selected for training aboard a South Korean ship called Han Ban Do,” he said.

Students in the program are provided with accommodation, meals, travel expenses, workers’ insurance and a monthly stipend of US$100, he said.
IMT will soon start accepting applications for its two-year diploma in nautical studies program for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Last year the institute accepted 300 students who scored above 390 on their matriculation exams.
