Course fills management gap at hotels

By Zo Puii

THE Myanmar Hoteliers Association (MHA) is offering a course in middle management from July 23 to August 17 to help fill managerial gaps in Myanmar’s hotel industry.

Forty-one manager-level staff from local hotels were accepted for the course, which is being held at Central Hotel in downtown Yangon.

Experienced lecturers from local human resources centres are providing lectures on a range of subjects, including general hotel operation management, general administrative management, financial administration, human resources development, resource management, security services management, customer services and sales, and English-language proficiency.

MHA chairman Dr Khin Shwe said the association is aiming to fulfil a need for qualified hotel managers with the new course.

“To compare hotels with a football team, middle management plays the same role as a midfielder. We would like to produce more qualified staff to fill that gap,” he said at a launch ceremony for the course on July 22.
