THE Myanmar Medical Association is planning to provide training
in basic health information about the country’s three main
diseases – HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria – to
general practitioners at six townships.
The association will train them under its public-private partnership
tuberculosis project late this month and in August with the help
of the Three Diseases Fund.
Dr Thet Naing Maung, the assistant project manager of TB project,
said the association had so far chosen three townships –
Taikkyi in Yangon Division, Nyaunglaybin in Bago Division and
Hpa-an in Kayin State.
He said the townships were chosen because they did not have
as many health projects as other areas and their GPs were keen
to take part in the training.
The other three townships would be chosen according to the same
criteria.
Dr Thet Naing Maung said the association will also continue a
TB treatment training program for GPs, which has so far covered
19 townships.
The association held a quarterly review meeting on July 6 to
discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the project. The meeting
was held in collaboration with the project’s township coordinators
and officials from the World Health Organisation.
The TB project encourages private sector GPs to refer suspected
cases of TB to government health care centres.
The meeting had helped to strengthen the project, said Dr Thet
Naing Maung.
