ISO certification
THE Institute of Marine Technology last month earned certification
from the Geneva-based International Organisation of Standard-isation
(ISO) for its quality management systems.
The principal of the institute, U Win Thein, said ISO 9001-2000
certification was granted on July 6 following inspections by London-based
Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) on April 5 and
June 19 and 20.
He said it was the first time inspections by LRQA had resulted
in ISO certification in Myanmar.
The Institute of Marine Technology was founded in 1972 to teach
nautical and engineering subjects. So far, 167,682 students have

Newspaper survey
STATE-RUN daily newspapers launched their first-ever readers’
surveys last month in an effort to collect feedback from the public
on the content and layout of the publications.
Copies of Myanma Ahlin, Kyeemon (The Mirror) and The New Light
of Myanmar included inserts from the News and Periodicals Enterprise
(NPE) under the Ministry of Information asking readers for input
to improve the content and appearance of the publications.
“We will accept any suggestion which is in constructive
manner from you,” the flyer said, adding that those who
gave the top three suggestions would be awarded K300,000, K200,000

Tourism directory
A LOCAL media company, Logistics Media Services Co Ltd, is planning
to launch the Directory of Myanmar Hotels and Tourism 2007-2008
for the upcoming peak travel season, which lasts from October
to March.
A spokesperson from the company said it will be the first English-language
directory of hotels and tourism to be published in Myanmar. –
