YANGON Airways began offering e-ticket service earlier this month
for foreign visitors through its website as well as through the
website of its primary sales agent, Shan Yoma Travels and Tours.
The airline and travel company had agreed last November to launch
the e-ticketing system, which allows foreign visitors to receive
Yangon Airways tickets via email. The service started on August
1.
The system allows foreign visitors to visit Yangon Airways (www.yangonair.
com) or Shan Yoma Travels and Tours (www.explore myanmar.com)
online to make a flight reservation.
If the requested seats are available, the passenger must make
payment via overseas bank transfer. Once payment is received,
the passenger will get an email with the ticket included as an
attachment, which can be printed and presented at the airport
check-in counter.
Yangon Airways has also announced that it plans to buy an additional
aircraft to be used for charter flights to outbound destinations.
The airline is also cooperating with PB Travel Agency Centre
– based in Chiang Rai, Thailand – and Yangon-based
Eastern Beauty Travels and Tours to offer Amazing Myanmar promotional
packages for the Thai market that include accommodation at Park
Royal Yangon Hotel. The monsoon-season promotion is available
until the end of September.
U Aung Gyi, the senior manager of sales and marketing at Yangon
Airways, said ticket sales have gone up during this year’s
low season compared with last year.
“Our ticket sales went up 13 percent in May and June compared
with the same period last year,” he said. “Myanmar
marketing is getting much better but the country still needs to
improve its infrastructure to promote tourism effectively.”
