THE Singapore Association of Myanmar held its 14th charity golf
tournament at Pun Hlaing Golf Course on August 11.
The tournament was attended by about 130 participants, including
government officials, SAM members and their friends.
Mr Teddy Chia, the president of SAM and general manager of Parkroyal
Hotel, said the tournament was aimed not only at raising money
for charity projects, but also at fostering friendship and closer
rapport among people from various ASEAN countries living in Yangon.
He said that as a result of the tournament, Aung Parahita Pariyati
orphanage, St Augustin Church Youth Group and Mary Chapman School
for the Deaf will each get goods valued at K500,000, while Yangon
General Hospital will get K3.5 million in equipment.
A dinner party and awards ceremony held at Traders Hotel following
the tournament attracted more than 360 guests.
Awards were given for the tournament in four categories: Division
A, Division B, Ladies Division and Novelty.
U Zaw Win Naing took top honours for Division A, while Division
B was won by Mr Chiang Puat Soon. The champion of the Ladies Division
was Ms Panathorn.
The Singapore Association of Myanmar was established in 1993 by
Singaporeans living in Myanmar to promote social, cultural, recreational
and educational activities among its members.
