IMT to get new on-ship simulator

By Zaw Winn

THE Institute of Marine Technology will install an on-ship bridge simulator in its training room by the second week of September to help students learn how to pilot ocean-going vessels, said U Win Thein, the principal of the institute.

The new simulator will feature seven plasma display screens that offer a life-like, on-ship experience for trainees, complete with realistic ship movements. The school’s old simulator had only one visual channel, U Win Thein said.

“The simulator allows students to be trained in standard procedures and emergencies, to develop professional skills and to consolidate previously obtained theoretical knowledge,” he said.

It will also allow instructors to conduct courses in ship handling and manoeuvring at the institute, he said.
