A FIRE broke out at a garment factory in Hlaing Tharyar Industrial Zone west of Yangon on August 15, killing two people and injuring eight others, state-run media reported last week.

The fire at Friendship garment factory started at 10:25am.
Forty-three fire trucks responded to the emergency, dousing the flames by 12:45pm, the Mirror newspaper reported.

One fireman was listed among the injured who were sent to an area hospital for treatment, the report said.

The report said the fire was caused by a boiler explosion in the factory’s kitchen.
