THE Yangon Division Supervisory Committee Ensuring Smooth and
Secure Transport “temporarily” increased bus fares
in the city last week in reaction to a massive rise in fuel prices,
said an official from the committee.
As a result of the increases, bus fares that were previously
K40 have gone up to K100, K60 fares have risen to K150, and K80
fares to K200, said the official.
“These new bus fares will be temporary and will change in
about a week or 10 days,” he said on August 16. He said
any changes to the fares would be based on an evaluation of the
needs of the passengers weighed against the profitability of the
bus lines.
Meanwhile, the fares of special bus lines that run during peak
hours rose from K100 to K200 as a result of the new fuel prices.
Parami buses run by Bandoola Company, as well as the number
(1) and (2) Shwe Eaithe buses run by Shwe Than Lwin Company, also
raised ticket prices from K200 to K300.
The cost riding in CNG-fueled Parami taxis rose from K500 plus
K100 per mile, to K1000 plus K200 per mile.
An official from the Yangon Division Bus Control Committee said
the previous fares were based on a rate of K4 a mile while the
new fares are based on K10 a mile.
