Energy seminars to start Sept 1

By Kyaw Thu

THE Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) has declared September “Energy Month” – as well as October and November – after plans to hold the series of seminars spotlighting energy usage were postponed from August.

“Many officials and experts were busy this month so we moved our schedule back,” U Win Khine, president of the society’s energy committee, said on August 20.

Because the of the large number of people wishing to read papers at the weekly get-togethers at the MES headquarters in Hlaing township, Yangon, the “energy month” was extended to three, U Win Khine said.

Government officials and experts from the private sector are expected to read papers on a range of topics including the status of energy development in Myanmar, renewable energy, biofuels in Southeast Asia, rice husk gasifiers and small-scale hydropower plants.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the seminars, with the first one getting underway this Saturday, September 1.
