“The Chinese are investing more and more in jade trading. They know it’s a profitable business, which is why so many Chinese merchants come to Myanmar every year to buy our finest jade,” the MGE official said on condition of anonymity.

 

“Under the (ASEAN) brand, Myanmar would enjoy greater market share without spending time on marketing. But only if we make preparations in advance can we enjoy the benefits of exporting furniture under a single brand,”

 

SOUTH Korea’s Daewoo International Corp. formally returned to Myanmar’s consumer electronics market on August 25 with the opening of a Yangon showroom, almost a decade after the company pulled out due to financial woes.

“By this time next year we hope to have seven million acres (2.8 million hectares) of jatropha plantations in full swing and a large amount of biodiesel for export in the future,” said U Soe Myint, director general of the Energy Planning Department.

 

“This is an opportunity to extend our friendship for a fruitful partnership,” Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce vice chairman Jayampathi Bandaranayake told the Myanmar delegation after they arrived on August 27.

 

THE Myanmar government will sell natural gas from the country’s biggest field to the highest bidder among China, India, Bangladesh and Thailand, an official said, dismissing reports that China has won the contract.

 

“Basic infrastructure like drainage, roads, street lamps and the digging of ponds is 80pc complete. There only remain a few things to do, like some footpaths and tree planting,” Eiksietan Construction director U Aung Myin said, adding that electricity supplies were already connected.

The house itself takes up 1225-square-feet of the 6400sqft compound and includes an open parking area beneath the front door (currently being shared with a dining suite, of course). There is a small outdoors kitchen under cover behind the house with gas stove, basin and refrigerator.

The agreements came during a three-day goodwill visit by the acting Prime Minister, Lieutenant General Thein Sein, that the Sri Lankan foreign ministry said had marked a new chapter in bilateral relations.
 

“We need to tell them not to catch undersized eels so we can reduce the workload and prevent the unnecessary deaths of eels,” U Khin Ko Lay said, adding that regulations prohibited the export of eels of less than 3 centimetres radius.

 

“I send the kids to school every morning and fetch them around 3pm,” Alex says. “I work out during the day and spend time with my wife. When the kids are home, I feed and play with them and set aside recording time from 7 to 10pm when they are in bed.”

 

“I would prefer to sing soul music but it’s not very popular in Myanmar,” she said. “Also, I don’t really feel like I’m good enough for that sort of music. You need to put a lot of effort into it.”
