AN orphanage established by a group of compassionate citizens in East Dagon township is believed to be the only facility of its kind in the country providing care to children affected by HIV/AIDS.

 

“I started collecting books when I was young but back then it was a hobby so I only bought what I liked. When I retired from my work as a seaman in 1994 I started collecting different kinds of books with the aim of opening a bookstore one day,”

 

“I believe that our service will promote the relationship between the two countries, at the same time boost tourism with ASEAN nations,” he said before a loud crack that sent a shower of gold confetti onto the audience.

 

“We need to build more car parks in Yangon. Shopping centres like Theingyi Zay and Yuzana Plaza already have parking lots on each floor. Now the Yangon City Development Committee is building a lot behind New Bogyoke Aung San Market,”

 

“We are testing this second special bus line with five buses. We have already been running our first special route in downtown areas. The new one will run through the town in circular order,”

MEASUREMENTS taken by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology have revealed that rainwater in some areas of the country contains high levels of acid but still falls short of the amount required to be defined as acid rain.

 

SENIOR officials from the Department of Education Planning and Training under the Ministry of Education met at Sedona Hotel in Yangon from August 20 to 24 to revise the life skills curricula for grades six through 11 to make the lessons more relevant for students.

 

“The birth of twin elephants is a very rare event. Before this, it has only happened to MTE elephants three times since 1981. Only in two cases were we able to keep the twins alive for a long time,” said U Thaung Nyunt, a veterinarian who works for the enterprise.

“When the beach was opened in 2002, visitors complained there were not enough facilities there and they said the road to the beach was not in good condition,” Brig Gen Aye Myint Kyu said at the annual meeting of the Ngwe Saung Zone Hotelier Association at Yuzana Hotel in Yangon on August 21.

 

Traders travel from nearby villages to sell a wide variety of meats, fish, vegetables, fruit and traditional Myanmar spices. It is not uncommon to see more than 100 stalls set up, with hundreds of buyers milling around looking for the best deal.

 

“It can help put two people in touch with each other, either by searching what’s there or by posting something. It’s an easy way to make social contacts for those who find it hard to meet others outside.”

Heavy rain failed to keep Myanmar off their game as they notched up three goals in the first half to beat Singapore 3-0 on the first day of the eight-nation Southeast Asian tournament running until September 15.

 

“It would be better to test all participants for drugs (using urine or blood samples) but the cost would be too much so we decided on this system (of superficial inspections) because all members of the federation are volunteers,” he said.

 

“Yar Thet Pan has the most potential to get a medal at the tournament and I hope the others will help put Myanmar in a good position on the table to help us qualify for the Olympic Games in China next year. I hope we make it as one of the top 14 on the table,” U San Myint said.
