BEAUTIFUL brides decked out in equally amazing dresses were escorted down the aisle by handsome grooms sporting the latest in wedding tuxedos on September 2. But these glamorous couples weren’t getting married, and it wasn’t exactly an aisle they were walking down — it was a catwalk.

Hotel Nikko Royal Lake Yangon hosted the first wedding fair of the year — the "Nikko Dream Wedding Fair Colours of Love" — for lovebirds eager to start planning their weddings before the official wedding season begins.

The star-studded event was attended by musicians such as Alex and Zaw Win Htut and featured 17 celebrities as catwalk models, including Pa Pa Win Khin, Thet Khin, Thet Mon Myint and Phyo Ngwe Soe, alongside 70 models from the Talents and Models Agency.

“Hotel Nikko is the pioneer of this type of fair,” said Ma May Myat Mon Win, director of sales and marketing at the hotel. “The celebrity modelling concept is new for us and we plan to organise the same sort of event next year.”

The fair consisted of three main programs — "Innocent Love", "Sentimental Love" and "Passionate Love" — between 10am and 7pm.

Traditional dresses were presented in the first quarter of the show, followed by some not-so-traditional bright and colourful designs.

Modern styles, inspired by foreign fashion houses, made their debut at the fair. Designers included Khin Sann Win, DOZO Fashion School president Daw Thidar Win, Japanese fashion designer Watanabe Kazuko, Korean designer Mrs Kim, Ma Pont Pont and Ma Omar Kyaw of OMK.

Guests were offered a 10 percent discount on all Hotel Nikko wedding package deposits.

The day was officially organised by Hotel Nikko in collaboration with Alpine Water, Loi Hein, EMU Interior Design, Pupa Cosmetics, Seoul Studio, Amber Electronics and Fancy House Hair and Beauty Salon.
