THIS bold and beautiful home in Mayangone township offers plenty
of space for fine living in a setting that is decidedly more formal
than fresh.
Built on a 6300-square-foot compound on exclusive U Htun Nyein
Street, the seven-year-old property has two entrances secured
by heavy, black iron gates, one of which has a guard’s room
nearby.
There is generous use of teak and marble in the four-bedroom
house, which comes fully furnished, making it ideal for foreigners
setting up home in Yangon.
A large foyer and attached sitting room create a formal feel
to the ground floor, while a spacious dining room with a dark
wooden wall cabinet for displaying antiques indicates a home that
is more likely to appeal to the mature-minded rather than the
young at heart.
There is a good-sized kitchen with marble walls and plenty of
cupboard space, though it gets little natural light and could
use a spruce up to make it more appealing.
A door beside the kitchen leads outside and is a handy entrance
for a housekeeper, whose own living quarters – external
access only – are in a partitioned part of the house nearby.
There is one bedroom on the ground floor and three upstairs,
all with their own bathrooms.
A twisting staircase in the centre of the home leads to the
second floor, where a more casual décor has been chosen.
An open living room, currently set up with a TV, is the best
place in the house to kick back and relax on a day off. A large
balcony off this room offers nice views over the neighbourhood.
One drawback to the property is the lack of garaging, although
there is a large portico that provides some shelter.
The home comes with nine air conditioners and a 25KVA generator.
Tenants must sign on for at least a year.
