A SURVEY team from South Korea visited Myanmar early this month
to take part in an agriculture and rural development pilot project
in Hlegu township in Yangon Division, according to a statement
released last week by the Korea International Cooperation Agency
(KOICA).
A survey team consisting of a KOICA resident representative
and two rural development experts visited Hlegu from September
2 to 7 to examine the feasibility and determine the workload of
the project, in which Myanmar officials who have undergone agriculture
and rural development training in South Korea will share their
knowledge with locals.
According to the statement, KOICA invited 10 officials from
Myanmar to take part in an agriculture development policymaking
course in 2005.
In 2006 15 officials were invited to South Korea to take part
in an agriculture research and development course, while a further
15 were invited to an agriculture extension and post-harvesting
course, the press release said.
The press release said the programs not only contribute to building
the capacity of agricultural officials and farmers in Myanmar,
but also strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two
countries in the agricultural sector.
