Myanmar rethinks golf tour

By Thein Win Nyo

THE inaugural ASEAN Golf Tour has had its schedule reshuffled and dates pushed back, forcing the Professional Golfers Association of Myanmar (PGAM) to reconsider sending players to the second event as planned.

No Myanmar golfers competed in the debut event on the tour in Jakarta this month, although PGAM secretary U Chan Han said the association had been planning to send players to the second event, which had originally been scheduled for September 26-29 in Thailand.

The second event will now be held in the Philippines from October 17-20 with Thailand to host a tournament in December.

“Now that a new schedule has come out, we have to rethink our participation,” U Chan Han said, adding that Yangon would still host an event on the ASEAN Tour early next year though details were yet to be confirmed.

Under the new timetable, the tour will move from the Philippines to Singapore from November 6-9 before heading to Vietnam from November 13-16 and Thailand from December 19-22.
