Deputy FM visits China

A SENIOR Myanmar diplomat visited China earlier this month to consult with Beijing on the promotion of bilateral cooperation, a media report said last week.

Deputy foreign minister U Kyaw Thu attended a meeting of the foreign ministries of the two countries in Beijing on October 11, which was also attended by U Kyaw Thu’s Chinese counterpart, Mr Wu Dawei.

The meeting included discussion on “matters relating to bilateral relations” in which participants “exchanged views on cooperation in international and regional matters,” the New Light of Myanmar reported on October 20.

The week-long visit by U Kyaw Thu, which began on October 9, also included trips to Nanning in China’s Guangxi province, as well as to Yunnan province.
U Kyaw Thu met the provincial authorities of the two Chinese provinces, which are important markets for Myanmar products as well as major sources of Chinese imports into Myanmar.

The visit by U Kyaw Thu followed a trip to Beijing by Foreign Minister U Nyan Win last month to brief Chinese leaders on the political situation in Myanmar.
